It’s not uncommon for the Flat Out 5k to be a rough road running event in terms of conditions, and this year’s race was no except. Temperatures stayed just below zero and winds were gusting up to 50km/hr! Despite of this, there were some fast times with both Jordan Fewer winning at 15:45 and David Freake hot on his heels with second place at 15:47. Amanda Wilkins stayed ahead of Krissy Dooling by 10 seconds to take the win for the women at 19:02.

Worth noting is the record number of participants this year. 276 people crossed the finish line, compared to 238 in 2014, and 219 in 2013. It will be interesting to see if other races this year have increases in participation numbers. This is perhaps a halo effect of the continued surge in interest for the Tely 10 16km race in the last weekend of July which had a record setting approximate 4200 runners sign up last year.
