Amazing race conditions brought fast times for the 2015 Mews 8k. An ideal low temperature of 9 degrees celsius and non existent winds, 4km/hr, really paid off for a numbers of runners earning their own PB’s on the course. Much like his uncle, Jordan took the lead at the start and literally ran away with it, beating the next closest runner by full minute and a half. Clearly Fewer’s recent trail running excursions(Fewer ran 50k with Caroline McIlroy during her 220k record on the ECT) have not hindered his road running at all. Seriously question time, is Peter Power ever going to slow down? Clearly the answer is “no”. Trevor Trahey was not far behind Power and seems primed for a great Tely after no running it in a couple of years. He’s certainly looking like he will improve on his 2013 time of 58:30.
On the women’s side of the event, Anne Johnston made her first race appearance of the season winning it in 28:18. Hopefully this means that she will be running the Tely 10 this year. Julia Kawamoto did not run the race and appears not to be registered for the Tely 10 this year. With Kate Blazely(registered) just giving birth to her second child, the women’s Tely 10 race may be quite competitive! If that is the case, Karen Stacey and Janelle Simmons will both be eager to possibly take the top podium spot with both of them having strong performances in the Mews event along with Anne Johnston.
